Exclusive: Lawrence Taylor's Wife Lynette on Her Husband's Arrest
06:37
"The Insider" sat down exclusively with Lawrence Taylor's wife Lynette last night at her home in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where she commented on her husband's arrest on charges of rape.
Lynette tells "The Insider" about the moment on Thursday morning that she found out her husband, former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant and football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor had been arrested. "I got a phone call from a friend at nine or ten o'clock [that] morning. I hadn't talked to him since [the night before]," she says.
On the allegations against her husband, Lynette comments, "I have no idea what he was doing with a teenager. We're talking about reports, not what we know as facts. I don't know if he was with a teenager. Lawrence is 51 years old. Why would a teenage girl be soliciting sex from a 51-year-old man?"
Lynette says the whole situation is "out of character for [Lawrence]." She goes on to say, "I don't believe it. This is not my husband's character. I've spoken to him several times. He is distraught because he didn't do anything wrong. I believe and he believes that he was set up."
Firmly standing by her husband, whom she wed in 2007, she goes on to say, "First, he is not one of those people who would invite a person back to his room. He has been in situations before where he has been robbed and by different women, so that's not something that he does. Second thing is, I know my husband's taste. He has a certain type of woman that he likes and from what I'm learning of this, this person had nothing to offer him, so I don't why he would go to such extremes for someone that's not even his thing. I'm sure there's no shortage of women..."
She goes on to tell "The Insider," "He is a wonderful husband, father, friend and a beautiful person inside and out. He was good at football. We all know he did drugs. He is done with drugs. I feel like people need to be able to see beyond the entertainment that he gave and realize that he is a human underneath all of this. A beautiful one at that."
Taylor appeared in court Thursday, facing charges that he raped a 16-year-old girl. The former New York Giants football player was charged with a felony count of third degree rape (in which a person over the age of 21 has sexual intercourse with a person who is younger than 17) as well as a misdemeanor count of patronizing a prostitute. Taylor maintains his innocence.
